Directors were told yesterday that they have the right to correct  situations happening in other departments that are not in accordance with the law.

Acting Governor Lemamu Peleti Mauga informed directors at yesterday’s cabinet meeting that they have the same power as he and the governor in operating the government and this includes correcting things that are not right in other departments.

He said if directors  instances which are not in accordance with the law in other departments thy should act on it.

He gave as an example the agencies that are at the airport, like immigration, customs, sgriculture, and health and told directors if they witness these agencies doing something thats outside of the law  they should stop it.

Similarly if they see kids fighting on the road they should stop their cars and intervene, and not have the mindset, leave it to the cops, it’s their job.

Lemanu said this was the shared responsibility of directors in managing and operating the government and they must work together.

He said a bad mark for one department brings the whole government in disrepute which and this reflects badly on the governor and lt governor.
