Acting Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga had a lot of reminders and instructions for directors and CEOs at the cabinet meeting earlier this week.

He told the cabinet that if Governor Lolo Moliga has already approved something directors should not disapprove it if its against polices or regulations of their departments.  Instead the director should find a way to carry out what the governor has approved.

Lemanu said he came across a document which had the governor’s signature of approval however a director marked the same document disapproved.

He said said there is only one governor and once the governor approves something a director should not disapprove it because its against the policies or rules. Lemanu was firm that the director should find a way to implement what the governor has approved.

The acting governor also addressed the cabinet about taking leave.  He said some directors go off island without his approval and he finds out when he sees a director’s vehicle parked at the parking section right outside the airport  arrival area,  for a whole week.

He said he would dock the pay of anyone who takes leave without approval.

Lemanu also explained that this area is not for directors to park their vehicles for several days.  He said the Director of Port Administration has explained that this section is only for over night parking and if directors are going to be away for longer than that they can use airport parking lot.

Another topic which Lemanu addressed was the dress code for directors.

He has noticed that some directors come up to the Governor’s Office wearing shorts.

He reminded directors that they are leaders and when they enter the Governor’s Office there are members of the public in the foyer for appointments.  He observed that directors didn’t come in shorts while the governor was here,.  But maybe because they consider that he’s not the governor they think they can get away with this sort of attire.
