Ignoring litter citations may bite you in the end

A litter citation is regarded an infraction which according to the level of  offences is the lowest after felonies and misdemeanors.

But the fines under the Keep American Samoa Beautiful Act are steep because as attorney for the Environmental Protection Agency Marian McGuire explains the intention is to stop littering at the source.

When a person is issued a citation, their options are to prepay the fine, go to court and plead guilty or go to court and challenge it. The minimum fine is $60 for the first infraction.

But not taking any of those options would take more money out of your pocket and you may run into trouble if you are trying to get a court clearance.
