This morning the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency and partners for STEAM Week, (Science, Technology. Engineering, Arts and Math), held a wave for Earth Day at Utulei.

ASEPA chose the theme “Protecting our Environment, Our future” for this year’s Earth Day celebration.

Congresswoman Aumua Amata was among the wavers.

After the wave, there was an outreach at Afono Elementary School by the STEAM Team.

Students were given information on some practices that harm the environment, like burning trash and how littering on land, e.g. dumping trash in streams, can harm marine life as all that trash ends up in the sea.

STEAM Week includes workshops for teachers hosted by NOAA, competitions for students on  building Remotely Operated vehicles,  tours of businesses and government agencies where STEAM know-how is utilized and the week culminates in a STEAM Summit and Expo at  ASCC on Saturday.
