American Samoa is the only part of the United States where the government closes for Good Friday.

Christians observe Good Friday with reverence because of their belief that this is the day that Christ was beaten and hung on  the Cross in atonement of their sins.

Today is known as Holy Thursday, which starts the Easter Triduum, that includes the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and his 12 Apostles where he washes their feet as a sign of being a servant rather than being served, Good Friday where Jesus is beaten and crucified and Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday when Jesus rose from the dead.

Churches across the territory will be holding services for the observance of the Easter Triduum.

One of the most well attended is the Stations of the Cross on the morning of Good Friday which reenacts the final steps that Jesus took on earth leading up to his being nailed alive on a cross.

The Stations of the Cross is a Catholic observance and members of other faiths are known to join their Catholic brothers and sisters in this service.

Some parishes have their Stations of the Cross in their churches while many plan theirs along the public highway.

The Cathedral Parish of the Holy Family will have their Stations of the Cross at 5 tomorrow morning beginning from the airport and ending at the Fatuoaiga grounds.
