A police officer, Tuluiga Richard Salanoa, has been charged with permitting escape and concealing an offense, both Class D felonies.

It’s alleged that early this month, Salanoa helped inmate Manu Lefatia escape from the Fagatogo police station where he has been held since late last year.

The officer was arrested yesterday and made his initial appearance in District Court this morning.

He is being held on bail of $10,000. His pretrial election is set for Thursday morning.

Also appearing this morning was Lefatia, who is facing charges of escape from confinement and bribery.

Lefatia is also charged in an escape from the TCF last August, allegedly for shooting another man and a separate case when he allegedly beat up another inmate.

This while serving time for the shooting of the police station in Leone several years ago.
