The couple behind a project that would promote traditional healing and use of local plants to treat illnesses hopes to break ground for their Manuia Samoa Center this summer.

Queen Mele Leiato Mohammed Ali, an award winning film director and her husband,  Hakeem Khalid, also an acclaimed film maker, are back in the territory to move the center project along.

Queen Ali said on the Samoa Sunrise Show this morning that while finalizing the land for their center in Fagaitua where her mother’s family is from, she and her husband have been teaching students of Fagaitua High School film making.

The Manuia Samoa Center will also be a hub for film making.

The center will be funded with a grant that was awarded to Ali in 2017 by the ArtPlace American Group.
