South Seas Broadcasting Inc., owners of 93KHJ (KKHJ FM) and V103 (WVUV FM) is adding a new radio station to its family of stations. That station is KNWJ 104.7,  formerly known as Showers of Blessings.

Showers of Blessings, a religious station that was started by Gerhard Sword and the Sword family more than 20 years ago, was sold this week to South Seas Broadcasting for $70,000.

President Larry Fuss said the purchase was by his Las Vegas-based consulting company, Contemporary Communications LLC, but that KNWJ will eventually be folded into South Seas Broadcasting Inc.

An application was filed with the Federal Communications Commission on Monday and approval of the license transfer is expected within 60 days.

Fuss said KNWJ has been off-air for several months and we wanted to bring the signal back to life.

“We’ve been making great radio in American Samoa for nearly 20 years and we felt an additional station would be beneficial to us and to the community,” he explained.

Fuss said KNWJ returned to air this past Monday and repairs are being made to bring the signal to full strength.

For now it is simulcasting KKHJ until new programming is ready to launch, probably within the next 30 days. The studio for KNWJ will be co-located with the studios for 93KHJ and V103.

The changes don’t stop there. According to Fuss, the call letters for KNWJ become KKBT, effective tomorrow, Saturday. The KKBT call letters are being moved from 88.9 which will in turn change to KVPP.

KVPP 88.9 will soon carry programming from K-Love, a nation wide Contemporary Christian music format.

KVPP is licensed to South Seas Broadcasting General Manager Joey Cummings and is being leased to Educational Media Foundation, the operators of K-Love.

Cummings said, “We’re happy to bring this very popular Christian music format to the island. It’s going to be powerful.”
