Even though they’re not getting paid, the US  Coast Guard continues their mission.

The US Coast Guard cutter Sequoia arrived in port yesterday to do maintenance work on the navigational aids in the territory.

Lt. Commander William Adams said that they will work on the buoys and beacons in Pago Pago Harbor, Breakers Point, Aunuu, Ofu and Ta’u islands.

The Sequoia, also known as the Black Pearl of the Pacific, is home ported in Guam.  It has on board 7 officers and 42 crew members.

The vessel departs January 23 and Captain Adams says they are looking forward to some  R&R while here.

Captain Adams said, “American  Samoa is pretty clean and very green.”  He and his crew are looking forward to seeing more of the island.

The Sequoia has been here before but it’s been some time since its last visit.

Some of the crew on board have been here before on other Coast Guard cutters so they know the favorite eating spots, watering holes and where to get good bargains.
