“We have not given up,” says Director of Agriculture Filifaatali Mike Fuiava about hiring a new veterinarian for his department.
He says they began advertising in November and only two applications were received.
One was a person from Malaysia and the second applicant worked in a field related to veterinarian services but was not a vet.
Former veterinarian Kristen Jensen’s contract ended last Friday.
The director said they had hoped to have a replacement before Jensen leaves the island, January 28 so that there would be a smooth transition.
However there’s not much they can do with the response to the veterinarian ad.
He said he’s making enquiries in Samoa for a veterinarian that they could hire.
The vet clinic at the Department of Agriculture was still tending to pets this week but no information was available on the services being provided.
