Dorothy Elia pled guilty to embezzlement Friday in High Court and was immediately taken into custody.
Originally charged with four counts: embezzlement, stealing, criminal fraud and forgery, the defendant entered a plea agreement with the government in which she pled guilty to embezzlement and the other charges were dropped.
She admitted that while working fo the Native American Samoan Advisory Council, a non profit organization she embezzled “about $36,000”.
Embezzlement is a Class C felony carrying a 7 year prison term and or a fine of $5,000.
She is to be sentenced February 22.
