Before the opening of the Fono, Chief Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr administered the oath of office for the new Senator for Manu’a District,  No 1. Logiai Siaki Logoai.

With his wife Kuini by his side, the new senator swore on the Holy Bible to defend the constitution and laws of the United States and American Samoa.

Earlier, a committee appointed by the Senate President to review and decide if the selection of Logoai has met the requirements of the law gave the all clear for the new senator to take the oath.

The committee was headed by Senator Tuaolo Fruean and members were Magalei Logovii and Faamausili Mau Mau Jr.

The Senate President announced that normally the Senate President Pro Tem Nuanuaolefeagaiga Saoluaga Nua as chair of the Senate Rules Committee would be part of the committee however it was inappropriate for Nua to  be involved because the senate seat in question belongs to his district.

The committee came back in a very short time to report to the Senate.  Senator Tuaolo said that they have determined that the selection of Logoai Siaki Logiai to be the new senator of Manua District no 1 has complied with the law.

Senate President Gaoteote then invited Chief Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr to administer the oath for Logoai.

Senator Logoai then attended the opening of the first regular session of the 36 Legislature with the rest of the senators.
