When schools resume next Monday, students aged 11 through 18 years will be bringing home a letter and form from the Department of Health requesting parents provide proof that their children have been vaccinated against meningococcal disease.

Because of recent cases reported from Northland, New Zealand the World Health Organization Western Pacific Office has issued an alert for island countries to be on the alert for cases of meningococcal disease.

The most vulnerable age group is 11 to 19 years.

Director of Nursing at DOH, Margaret Sesepasara said teams will be visiting schools beginning Monday to distribute the forms and DOH is urging parents to please fill out the forms as soon as possible.
