Samoa will soon have two primary gateways for internet services after signing on to the Manatua Cable in Auckland, New Zealand last month

The Manatua Cable project is a four-country partnership between the Cook Islands, Niue, French Polynesia and Samoa.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi signed the deal with Niue’s Premier, Sir Toke Talagi, Cook Islands Prime Minister, Henry Puna and the President of French Polynesia, Tagaloa Eduard Fritch.

The Samoa Government says the signing sees Samoa take a step closer to realize her dream of becoming the Pacific Hub for Information Telecommunication Technology.

The Manatua Cable will link Samoa (with onward connections via Tui-Samoa and the Southern Cross cable) and French Polynesia (with onward connections to Honotua Cable), with branches to Niue and the Cook Islands (Rarotonga and Aitutaki), enabling two primary gateways to the global internet for the country.

PM Tuilaepa commended the Manatua Cable noting that it will further strengthen Samoa’s connection to the Pacific and beyond making it more viable for more business investment in Samoa.

And the target is by the year 2020, Samoa will be connected to four international fiber optic cables which includes Tui Samoa and the Manatua Cables.
