Tafuna’s NHS helps beat rheumatic heart disease

Many hands make light work, and the Tafuna High School National Honor Society is lending a hand to efforts by the Department of Health to beat the rising cases of rheumatic heart disease in the territory.

In collaboration with DOH, Tafuna’s National Honor Society is staging a 5k run on Nov 17 to not only raise awareness about  the disease but also get students and all those who participate, get into the habit of exercising.

11th Grader Nellie Leisala explained their plans on the Samoan Sunrise Show this morning.

Registration for the event will be $7 and the run is set to start at 5:30 in the morning.

DOH staff welcomes the support and is excited about the event and what it will do to promote awareness of this dreaded disease.

As staffer Ipu Unutoa explains, DOH also sees other prospects in this collaboration.
