Village mayors were  given a run down of Election Day rules that they will help enforce next Tuesday when voters head to the polls.

This took place Monday at the Office of Samoan Affairs when Election Commissioner Dr. Lealofi Uiagalelei and staff addressed the regular meeting of Local Government officials at which  paychecks are distributed.

Election law states that campaign signs, tents and other political signs are prohibited within 100 ft of the polling places. Food distribution by election candidates is also prohibited

The Election Commissioner stressed that village mayors or pulenuu have an important role in maintaining an orderly and peaceful election in villages and districts.

They are to work closely with Election Office supervisors ensuring a smooth election process on November 6.

Also at the Monday meeting at Samoan Affairs, Tapaau Dr. Daniel Aga Director of the ASG Office on Political Status, Constitutional Review and Federal Relations gave a presentation concerning the referendum on the veto override

As we’ve reported before, voters will cast ballots for their House faipule, congressional candidate and referendum using one ballot form.

When ballots are opened, the supervisor will announce the vote for each of the three elections while a poll worker writes the result on a board. These will be tallied and the results would be communicated to the Election Office.

The results will then be announced on KVZK-TV which will be broadcasting from the Election Officer beginning around 7pm Tuesday evening.

Polls open at 6am and close at 6pm.
