Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi continues to try and find ways to entice people from the big island of Savai’i to “return to the land”.

In a recent media interview, he lamented the government’s decision to build a two storey market place on the big island.

He said the idea has not worked according to plans which was to provide an outket for farmers’ produce given the large farm land areas on the island.

And he has again urged residents of Savaii to develop agriculture so the market can be utilized to sell their produce.

He said this was why government had decided to bring the annual agricultral show to Savaii.

Tuilaepa said that he often paid visits to the Salelologa market to check whether the market is a useful development.

This development he concluded has not worked according to plan and the market has been overextended.

He revealed that businesses overseas have applied to set up in Savaii and this will provide employment which is the reason why many people from Savaii are living in Upolu.
