Congresswoman Aumua Amata, in welcoming over $1.375 million in federal funds to American Samoa for LBJ Tropical Medical Center and other energy infrastructure, has expressed her appreciation of the Leadership of the Department of the Interior for ensuring these funds are made available.

“Thank you as always to Secretary Ryan Zinke, Assistant Secretary Domenech and OIA’s Director Nikolao Pula for their ongoing friendship and support for our islands,” she said.

“The Interior Department is releasing four different energy infrastructure grants to American Samoa, totaling $1,375,816,” said Aumua Amata.

She said in a release this morning that two of these grants are designated for LBJ hospital projects, one to the shipyard and one for American Samoa Power Authority.

”Specifically, the grants, as notified in a letter signed by Assistant Secretary Doug Domenech, are directed through the Office of Insular Affairs’ (OIA) Energizing Insular Communities (EIC) program,” she said.

According to the release the four projects include installing air conditioning water chillers at LBJ, which is worth $222,284.

$103,532 has been earmarked for removing old equipment and installing new genset (modern energy equipment), also at LBJ.

The Ronald Reagan Shipyard Authority also benefits with a $150,000 grant set down for providing for generator, batteries and staff training.

Aumua said that American Samoa Power Authority will receive a grant of $900,000 set down for interconnection and distribution line storage.

“Congratulations to these three departments of American Samoa Government, and thank you to everyone involved and the professionals who will install this new energy equipment and material,” continued Congresswoman Amata.
