The 2019 Territorial Teacher of the Year, Miss Jordanna Maga, dedicates her award to her late mother, Maupati Tiso Panapa Maga.
A teacher for 8 years, Jordanna is currently teaching Mathematics at Tafuna High School.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics in 2008 from Hawaii Pacific Univeristy and her Master in Education in Secondary Education in 2011 from HPU.
Jordanna started her teaching career at McKinley High School Hawaii in 2009.
She said returning home, her late mother an educator herself, told her that they need Math teachers in the public schools.
She applied for a teaching job and has never looked back.
“My students are like my family, you want them to win, you want them to succeed, my student success is my success”.
Jordanna expressed her gratitude to the Territorial Teacher of the Year Committee for her selection, and also acknowledges the support from her school Principal Tutuila Togilau, Vice Principal Telesia Mauigoa, Vice Principal John Mailo, counselors, teachers and especially students.
Director of Education Dr. Ruth Matagi Tofiga in congratulating Jordanna on being the Territorial Teacher of the Year said, “It is great to see our young people having the passion for the teaching profession and making a difference in the lives of our students.”
