Samoa offers 3rd gun amnesty in three years

Samoa Police are determined to rid the country of illegal firearms and have again announced another amnesty for people to surrender unlicensed guns and ammunition.

According to Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil, this is the third time in as many years the public has been given a chance to hand in unlicensed firearms and ammunition without prosecution.

Fuiavailili emphasized the importance of the public cooperation by bringing in these firearms and other unlawful related items in order to reduce the incidents pertaining to the unlawful use of firearms and to prevent unwanted accidents with children having access to these weapons when it is not properly stored.

Commissioner Fuiavailili said more than 300 guns have been destroyed since the campaign started.
