Love Thy Neighbor, a family driven initiative to help members of the community who are economically disadvantaged, has secured the help of one of Samoa’s most popular singing groups, Punialava’a, for this year’s drive.

Tapumanaia Galu Satele Jr, who with his wife and kids started Love Thy Neihbor last year to help furloughed employees of Starkist Samoa, has decided to organize their food and cash drive each year.

A Love Thy Neighbor Benefit Concert featuring Punialavaa is set for November 21st at the Veterans Memorial Stadium.

And ticket sales for the concert will go on sale beginning tomorrow.

Tapumanaia says they’ll be set up in front of Tropical Chicken and Tropical Pizza in Tafuna from 9am to 1 pm tomorrow and enourages the public to buy tickets early for this one time showl

The group was first formed in Vailele, Samoa in 1966 by former school teacher Reverend Iosefa Lale Peteru.

He performed with his parents until 1968, then together with friends Rev. Peteru wrote and produced hits during the 1970’s that were played on Radio 2AP.

The song writing and singing reverend joined forces with his wife Vini during the mid 1980’s and Vini became the lead singer.

They recorded several cassettes in the early 1980’s at the Daystar Recording Studio in Vaitogi.

This past May the group was recognized at the Vodafone Pacific Music Awards in New Zealand for their contributions to original Pacific music.
