The Honolulu office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has handled complaints about discrimination and harassment in the workplace from American Samoa in the past.

But the visit this week by Director Ms Glory Gervacio Saure is believed to be the first time that any awareness outreach by the Honolulu office has been conducted in American Samoa.

The woman’s advocacy group Pae ma le Auli and Alliance for Strengthening Families have organized workshops and discussion groups for Ms. Saure who arrived Monday night.

The Honolulu EEO Office is responsible for Hawaii and the territories of Guam, Northern Marianas and American Samoa.

Ms Saure says the focus of her local workshops are rights in the workplace and this includes for both employees and employers and managers.
