The planting of flowers at the Healing Garden for Fallen Soldiers at the Veterans Monument on the grounds of the VA Center has been postponed till further notice.
The planting activity was scheduled for Labor Day Monday
Dr. Julia Levi Foifua, the Support Coordinator who was organizing the planting activity reported that what was planted at the garden up to now by aurvivors , the Land Grant ACNR staff and other community partners has been vandalized.
She said picnic tables and chairs on site have been damaged and the area was found littered with beer cans, trash and bottles after this past weekend
She said it was heartbreaking and an insult to efforts invested by our working group and the hard working staff of ACNR Land Grant.
The garden was supposed to be a memorial to fallen soldiers and a healing garden for their families.
Dr. Levi Foifua said, “Lord, I pray for better hearts and spirits of respect from our community for the memorial grounds honoring our Fallen Heroes.
“We are committed to continue to develop this project and are already reviving what can be salvaged moving forward.”
Dr. Levi Foifua has informed VA Officer Rosie Fualaau Lancaster about the vandalism and hopes that something can be done to stop these acts laying waste to the efforts of others to create something beautiful and worthwhile.
