Woman spends weekend in jail for disturbing ex hubby

A woman who spent the weekend at the Territorial Correctional Facility made her initial appearance in District Court today charged with peace disturbance, trespassing, third degree assault and resisting arrest.

Court documents said police were called in to quite Maria Iva Maalona who went to her ex-husband’s house and swore at him.

When police arrived at the scene the defendant was cursing loudly and attracting a crowd.

Maalona’s ex husband requested police to remove her from his residence for the sake of keeping the peace.

The defendant apparently threatened the ex husband’s niece to a fight.

Maalona resisted when the police attempted to arrest her and on their way to the substation in Fagatogo she offered the police officers $300 to drop her off at a friend’s residence.

District Court Judge pro tem, Gwen Tauiliili Langkilde today reduced her bail from $1000 to $500.

If she’s able to pay the $500 she will be released with conditions.

One of those conditions is that she stay away from her ex husband.

The defendant’s next court appearance is on July 25th.
