It’s a movie, a Samoan movie, made by Samoans, about Samoans and it is funny, very funny.
Hibiscus and Ruthless is the latest movie by Three Wise Cousins writer/director Stallone Vaiaoga-Iosia, and it is about to be screened here in American Samoa.
Vaiaoga-Iosia said in a press release that they will be flying over some of the cast and crew for the public to meet.
The meet and greet will be at a special launch May 31 at Regal Nu’uuli Cinemas.
“American Samoa is a very special place for us especially with the support the American Samoan people demonstrated when we came over for the release of our debut movie Three Wise
Cousins, three years ago,” said the Director who has pumped most of the money he made from Three Wise Cousins back into making his latest film.
He describes his film as a slice of life, with a unique perspective into a strict Pacific household with plenty of laughs along the way.
“The crew and I have stepped up our game from Three Wise Cousins with an energetic script that captures the hectic nature of trying to balance abiding by a parent’s very strict rules and the world outside of home that tempts you to break them.“
He also said that with Three Wise Cousins, “we saw that there was a very significant audience worldwide that is hungry for such universal stories that have a strong Pacific backbone.”
According to promotional material, Hibiscus’ obedience towards her mother’s rules gets put to the test in her final year of University as guys start to go all out to impress her.
She asks her childhood friend Ruth – A.K.A. “Ruthless” – to help keep her on the straight and narrow.
And that creates hilarious situations sure to raise the roof with laughter.
Young aspiring actresses Suivai Pilisipi Autagavaia and Anna-Maree Thomas play the lead roles.
The public will get to see the comedy starting this Friday, June 1st.
