Michael Sun of SPA is Spelling Bee Champ

The winner of the 24th Samoa News Territorial Spelling Bee is Michael Sun of South Pacific Academy. The competition held today in the KVZK tv studios and was televised live, went to 24 rounds.

Kristina Marie Timoteo of Tafuna elementary was the first runner up.

Kristina misspelled horseradish and Michael had to spell two consecutive words right. 1st word he had to spell was stunner and he aced that.

Then he got his final word from pronouncer Dana Love Ili.

Michael and a chaperone will head to the National Bee in Washing D.C. this summer.

There were 31 spellers from government and private schools in this year’s competition.

The pronouncers were Tapaau Dan Aga and Mrs Dava Love Ili and the judges were Fua Fuatagavi of Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s Office, Mrs. Carol Tautolo-Samuelu, General Manager of Operations, McDonald’s and Robin Annesley Dalton, General Manager of Samoa News.

The main sponsor for the Territorial Bee, organized by the Samoa News Newspaper,  is McDonald American Samoa, and several other businesses contributed.
