Governor Lolo Moliga has urged the people of American Samoa to celebrate people with disabilities this month which he has declared Developmental Disability Awareness month.
Lolo said that having a developmental disability “in no way diminishes the rights of individuals to live independently, enjoy self determination, make choices, contribute to society and participate fully in the economic, political, social, cultural and educational mainstream of our society.”
In his proclamation of March as Developmental Disability Awareness Month, the governor said the goals of the territory include providing individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunities and support to make informed choices and decisions, live in homes and communities where they can exercise their full rights and responsibilities as citizens and contribute to their family, community and territory.
