Filipino Consul General Helps Citizens in Distress

The Philippine Consul General in Honolulu, Gina A Jamoralin, will look into the matter of a Filipino national embroiled in a case with the Chief Immigration Officer.

The Consul General was on island with a team of 8 to conduct consular services for citizens of the Philippines residing in the territory.

Jamoralin says her duties include helping Philippine nationals in distress.

She was not aware of the case of a Filipino woman who was denied amnesty by the Immigration Board after she went public with allegations of being sexually harassed by the Chief Immigration officer in 2014.

The woman successfully appealed her case through the Administrative Law Judge but subsequent to the ruling she still faced difficulty obtaining immigration approval to live and work here.

Jamoralin said she will find out details about the womans status from local staff.

Speaking at the induction of new officers for the Local Filipino Community on Saturday, the consul general expressed appreciation to the government and people of American Smaoa for the opportunity afforded to Philippine nationals to reside and make a living in the territory.

She urged hr country men and women to have respect for and abide by the laws of their adopted home.

Jamoralin noted that skilled workers and professionals from her country are in high demand around the world …particularly in the areas of engineering and nursing.

She described Filipino as one of the most hard working people and said their hospitality and family values are similar to that of Samoans.
