district-court-4

District Court Judge Fiti Sunia sentenced this morning Cameron Ieremia on two different charges of public peace disturbance and interference with arrest stemming from an incident where a fight broke out in front of Mase Akapo’s residence in Vaitogi.

The defendant appeared before the court this morning after striking a plea agreement with the government where he pleaded guilty to the two charges while the government moved to dismiss two counts of assault in the 3rd degree against the defendant.

Represented by Assisting Public Defender, Kate Hannaher, the defendant has been sentenced to 26 days of detention for interference with arrest and 30 days for public peace disturbance.

Judge Fiti Sunia told the defendant that he was placed on probation back in 2014 for trespassing and one of the conditions of his probation was to be a law-abiding citizen.

Ieremia apologized before the court and to Judge Fiti Sunia for his disobeying the law and asked to give him a chance to go home and resume his responsibilities to his family.

Prosecuting the case was Assistant Attorney General Jillian Sadler.
