American Samoa is among 40 member countries and territories who are members of the Pacific Community attending the 10th Conference of the oldest organization in the region, being held in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale is attending the meeting which also marks the organization’s 70th anniversary.

American Samoa has hosted the Pacific Community’s  annual conference twice, when it was known as the South Pacific Commission.

Tuifaasisina Palauni Tuiasosopo once served as its Secretary General.

The Pacific Community sponsors the Festival of Pacific Arts which American Samoa hosted in 2008.

It also provides technical assistance and training for the territory in fisheries, health, education, youth and women affairs, agriculture, statistics,  and other port folios.

The theme for the 10th conference is “Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development,” and follows the annual governance meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations.

High on the agenda for this meeting is the implementation of key priorities for the Framework for Pacific Regionalism and a high-level discussion on the Pacific Youth Development Framework, a regional approach to youth-centered development in the Pacific.

SPC will celebrate its 70th anniversary with its 26 member countries and territories and partners at a Gala Dinner tomorrow.
