Summer time is usually the time for the territory to get groups of families and friends from off island coming here for reunions, weddings or other events.

A group of priests from Samoa and American Samoa kicked off a reunion over the weekend.

The priests are all graduates of Mt Angel Seminary in Oregon.

Vicar General of the Diocese of Samoa Pago Pago, Monsignor Viane Etuale, himself a Mt Angel Alumnus, said the last time they had a reunion was in 2010 in Apia.

When they were in Apia for a retreat last year, they all agreed to revive their annual reunions.

Ten priests traveled from Samoa, and one came from Los Angeles to join the six priests of the local Diocese who graduated from Mt Angel.

The reunion started with an ava ceremony Saturday night at Fatuoaiga,  and will include the celebration of the feast day of the seminary Saint Benedict tomorrow.

There’ll be Mass at the Cathedral with Monsignor Viane as the main celebrant and all of the priests concelebrating.

Fr. Poao Saena, Vicar General of the Diocese of Samoa Apia will give the homily.

Also on the reunion program is a game of golf, for bragging rites, fellowship and sharing of their priesthood ministry.

All of the visiting priests are staying at the Fatuoaiga Pastoral Cultural Center and are hosted by the American Samoa alumni of Mt Angel Seminary.  The reunion ends on Wednesday,.

The Diocese of Samoa Pago Pago has one seminarian  at Mt Angel now, Viane Ilemaleota, two are at the Pacific Regional Seminary in Fiji and two are in Guam.
