Samoa is putting its hand up to host the 2019 Pacific Games after Tonga officially withdrew as host.

President of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee, SASNOC, Fepulea’i Patrick Fepulea’i said that the Pacific Games Council was now inviting “expressions of interest” from potential hosts.

He says interested countries need to lodge their expressions of interest by July 31 and the executive board will do its assessment process including visits and a recommendation by the end of August.

He added that consultation with the Samoa Government would be conducted before an official expression of interest is submitted.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielagaoi has indicated his government’s willingness to support a bid for Samoa to host the Games.

President of the American Samoa Olympic Committee Ed Imo has said that ASNOC will support Samoa’s bid as it will bring many benefits for local athletes.
