Governor Lolo Moliga supports the American Samoa Telecommunication Authority’s plans to deactivate some 8,000 cell phone customers who have not dialed out but have been accepting incoming calls the past few years.

ASTCA’s interim CEO Rep. Puleleiite Li’amatua Jr. Tufele revealed the deactivation plans at Friday’s cabinet meeting.

He pointed out that these 8,000 subscribers have not been producing any revenue for ASTCA.

Governor Lolo encouraged the interim CEO to go ahead and do what’s necessary.

Lolo feels it’s not right for customers to receive ASTCA service when they’re not generating any money for the government’s phone company.

The governor advised Puleleiite to implement what’s needed, pointing out there are people who need and will pay for those lines which in turn would generate revenues for ASTCA,

When asked for his opinion of the deactivation, Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale simply said to “just cut them all off.”

ASTCA’s interim CEO hopes that by taking this route, affected subscribers would at least buy some e-charge credits for their mobile phones giving ASTCA some money.

Puleleiite said these cell phones have not been active for the past 2 to 3 years.
