Four Students Win Scholarships from BlueSky

BlueSky yesterday awarded four deserving high school and ASCC graduates scholarships to continue their education at the American Samoa Community College and off island universities.

Company officials, proud parents and family members and the media joined the selected students in the BlueSky Conference Room as they were presented with their official scholarship offers.

The private phone company is offering three $14,000 off island scholarships and one $4,000 scholarship at ASCC

The off island scholarships amount to  $3500 per year for four years and the ASCC scholarship comes to $2,000 annually for two years.

Parents and students expressed gratitude for the scholarships citing the high cost of education.

With President of the BlueSky Pacific Group Toleafoa Douglas Creevey looking on, Customer Service Manager Sherry Sele announced the winners.

This is the third year of BlueSky’s Future of American Samoa Scholarship Program.

Ms. Sele was asked what she feels is the reason for the high achievement level of past recipients of Bluesky scholarships.

KHJ News spoke to each of the awardees and all cited supportive and inspiring parents as part of their success.

Applicants of the BlueSky scholarships have to major in fields that are relevant to Bluesky, including Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering and a variety of business studies such as Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, or Communications.

The recipients also have summer jobs with BlueSky as part of their awards.
