Coach June Jones and the June Jones Foundation continue to do good things for American Samoa.

This week they brought down several Polynesian football All Stars and coaches some of whom have continued on to Samoa and New Zealand.

For the past decade the former UH football coach and his foundation have visited the territory annually to hold clinics and bring medical personnel and supplies for the LBJ Hospital.

Traveling with Coach Jones this time are Jesse Sapolu, Joe Montana’s legendary center when he was a 49er, along with Jack ‘The Throwin Samoan’ Thompson, former Bronco Ma’a Tanuvasa and Washington State Head Coach Mike Leach.

They were hosted by Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga at a breakfast at DDW yesterday morning.

Jesse Sapolu shared some of the history of the Polynesian athletes and what’s next for their contingent.

While Thompson, Sapolu, Coach Leach and Tanuvasa are bound for Apia and New Zealand, June Jones will be staying back to host a pair of coaching clinics today and tomorrow.

The clinics will be held at the DOE main office beginning at 9AM on both days.

It’s for coaches of all sports and leagues and for the general public as well.
