Governor Lolo Moliga is supporting a suggestion by Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i Sonny Thompson for law enforcement agencies to hold regular discussions about their work and see if the methods they are using fit the times.

Speaking at the cabinet meeting on Friday, Governor Lolo said it’s time for the Office of Samoan Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, the Attorney General and Customs to work hand in hand with the Department of Public Safety to ensure the safety and security of residents

During the police academy graduation which took place before the cabinet meeting Friday, DPS Commissioner Le’i requested the governor for these agencies to meet every last Friday of the month to evaluate the performance of the police force as well as guards at the Territorial Correctional Facility to make sure that the methods employed in their work are appropriate with changes in time and technology.

Governor Lolo pointed to the influx of drugs into the territory and a lot of incidents that challenge the government’s readiness to counter possible attacks on our territory.

The governor said he was not ashamed to share an evaluation of the police performance during the last two years.

He did not go into detail but said that he did not blame the police officers but members of the cabinet for not working together with the Department of Public Safety.

Lolo said that some of the  cops were not trained and this was reflected in their performance.

With the completion of the police academy and the Commissioner’s plans to have related departments get involved in evaluating their performance, Governor Lolo said he is confident that integrity and standards at DPS will be restored
