Tafuna Elementary School is to get a new playground through funding from the Community Block Grant Program.

The project was proposed by Tuala-uta  faipule, Vui Florence Saulo last year and was approved.  However the funding has just been released.

In her proposal, Vui sought $150,000 for a playground for Tafuna Elementary .

She said playing outside is not just letting off steam, it’s a vital part of childhood that helps children develop physical strength, coordination and balance.

She said playing also provides opportunities for children to learn and develop.

Rep Vui told KHJ News that she was informed this week that the funds have arrived and she’s hopeful that the playground project can start before too long.

The female faipule has sent a thank you letter to the CDBG Manager Magdalene Lina Petaia saying her relentless efforts, long with those of the Department of Commerce have resulted in another positive result for the children of her district.

Vui reiterated that as a lawmaker she has made education a priority and she’s pleased with the fact that a playground for Tafuna Elementary is becoming a reality.

She also acknowledged the assistance of Governor Lolo and the administration and said without the governor’s support, the project would have taken longer to come to fruition.

A hold up in getting the project started was deciding where the new playground would go.

Vui said she’s glad the governor has approved where the playground will be located.
