30 Days for Punching Man Who Disturbed Curfew

Utusia Iuta was sentenced to 30 days in jail for punching a man who disturbed the evening curfew in Fagaitua.

Testifying in District Court on Friday, Iuta said he was exiting a store in Fagaitua after buying coffee, to find the victim shouting loud noises during the village sa or evening curfew.

He then punched the victim causing him to fall to the ground.

Iuta was initially charged with two counts of assault and public peace disturbance; however, he pled guilty to one count of third degree assault, and the other two charges were dismissed.

In addition to being locked up for 30 days at the TCF, the defendant was placed on 12 months probation upon release and fined $100.

Judge Fiti Sunia ordered that the defendant attend anger management counseling and be law abiding once he’s let out of jail.
