Police officer Semi Sago begins serving a 30 day jail sentence today for hitting another man at an auto shop in Aua last June.

District Court Judge Fiti Sunia handed down a 12 month jail term which was suspended in lieu of probation for two years, a 30 day jail sentence and a fine of $200.

Before sentencing the cop, Judge Sunia said before the court is a sworn officer of the law who willingly acted against the law.

The judge summed up that the defendant in his police uniform and wearing his badge, went to the auto shop in a police vehicle.

He said it was clear that Sago violated the law and “fair or unfair, police officers are also subjective to justice.”

Judge Sunia added that if you drop your guard, you fail, and you failed all of us who were sworn to uphold the law.

Sago is due at the TCF at 4pm to begin serving his sentence and is to be released on June 26 .
