Commissioner of Public Safety Lei Sonny Thompson says police are still investigating a vehicle that customs has impounded at the warehouse on the dock after finding contraband inside,

Le’i said yesterday that its premature to release any information as investigators are still gathering information.

Its been three weeks since the black Cherokee Jeep arrived in the territory and went through the customs container scanner, after a canine agent alerted during an initial inspection.

Sources say ammunition and vapor chemicals that tested positive for THC, an ingredient in marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Acting Chief of Customs Keith Gebauer said a week ago that customs has finished a report of their internal investigation and forwarded it to the proper authorities for further action.

Sources familiar with the case say they don’t know why the police probe should take long when all the evidence is there to file charges for the contraband found in the vehicle.

They suspect that the reason why the wheels of justice are turning slowly in this case is because of the involvement of a government leader who initially tried to have the vehicle released.

The government official is not the consignee for the vehicle but one of his children has ties to the importer.
