ASPA keeps furloughs at bay

The American Samoa Power Authority is not affected by the reduction in hours.

Executive Director of ASPA Utu Abe Malae said since last August, ASPA has taken austerity measures to offset a burgeoning Accounts Receivable and drop in revenues.

This has included attrition of staff which in 2013 numbered over 500.

ASPA currently has 417 employees.

While Utu had announced late last year, ASPA will implement a furlough early this year, frugal planning and daily monitoring of finances has kept the  planned furloughs at bay.
