Chief of Customs Moetului Fuiava Sipili is downplaying a little known fact about the biggest of the four customs scanners that were purchased with bond money.

Reliable sources say that the container scanner uses a much higher voltage than what the territory uses.

The scanner operates on 400 volrs but the territory’s  power cycle is 120 volts.

When asked yesterday if this was true, Moetului said the higher power voltage of the container scanner is not a problem.

He said the scanner can still be used here without a problem, and told KHJ News a solution has been found and the container scanner will be ready for use by next week.

A represernative from the manufacturing company for the container scanner in England will be arriving on island and a handing over ceremony is planned for early next week.

The scanners are intended to improve border security through the  interception of drugs, weapons, and other contraband at the port of entry and also boost revenues for ASG by identifying all imports which are subject to excise taxes.
