Nuuuli Vo Tech to Become a Fulltime Trade School

Trades and vocational training will be key priorities in the second term of the Lolo Lemanu administration as the government up skills workers and develop local capacity needed to expand the territory’s economic development base.

The economic development Implementation plan identifies the types of industries that hold the best potential for American Samoa .

The strategies for workforce development include turning Nu’uuli Vocational Technical High School into a full fledged trade school.

According to Director of Commerce Keniseli Lafaele’s presentation at the Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting last night, the aim is to have graduates of Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School pass the NOCTI College credit which is a digital credential that a student could use to count for college credit.

Agricultiure, automotive, building construction, and electronics are key subject areas that NVTHS will be offering in the first three years.

And Manu’a will not be left out.

Its envisioned that before Fiscal Year 2017 is over, Manu’a High school will begin offering trades course.

Construction of a Trades School at the American Samoa Community College sometime this year is also part .

While the local workforce is being trained, economic development moves ahead with skilled workers from off island and also investors with money.

A relaxation of immigration rules would be necessary.
