Victim of Electrocution Was “Cheerful, Happy & Dedicated”

The young man who died from electrocution on Saturday at the Manu’a Store compound in Tafuna, Iosefa Elia, has been described by coworkers as a cheerful, happy and dedicated young man.

Customers of Manu’a Store who’ve seen photos of the young man on Facebook have remarked that he was always helpful when they were shopping at the store.

A total of 6 men, believed to be employees of Manu’a Store were rushed to the hospital Saturday morning after they were electrocuted.

A construction project was in progress at an old warehouse that has reportedly been acquired by the owners of Manu’a Store, situated between the Manu’a Store and what used to be Checkers.

According to eye witness reports, a crane which was lifting beams. not containers as earlier reported, hit a primary power line.

The crane belonged to APEX company.

Elia is believed to have died at the LBJ Hospital.

Two others were in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit while the rest were being stabilized in the Emergency Room.

Acting Commissioner of Public Safety, Le’i Sonny Thompson, said this morning there’s no other update on the condition of the five in hospital.

Questions emailed to the owner of the Manu’a Store, Manu’a Chen have not been answered.

Since the tragedy occurred at a work site, the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to send an investigator to the territory to investigate the incident.
