US Army Explores Land for Firing Range

The US Army is scouting for land for a firing range to be used for Army Reserve training.

The US Army used to have a firing range in Malaeloa however a dispute arose over the land ownership and the US Army discontinued using the property.

A US Army leader, Brigadier General Stephen Curda met yesterday with government officials to discuss their request for land to set up a firing range.

KHJ News understands that he’s looking at sites in Manu’a as well.

Brigadier General Curda also met with Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s local office.

It’s understood that the Defense Department is soliciting Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s support in pushing for funding to secure acreage for the firing range.

Brigadier General Curda is scheduled to return to Honolulu this evening.
