Governor Appoints First Four Directors

Governor Lolo Moliga yesterday made four cabinet appointments which will be made public today.

These are the Attorney General, Commissioner of Public safety, Treasurer, and Secretary of Samoan Affairs.

The appointees have already been informed and have accepted their appointments.

Governor Lolo confirmed to KHJ News that he has appointed Paramount Chief Mauga Tasi Asuega for another term as Secretary of Samoan Affairs.

And he has named High Talking Chief Malemo Tausaga as Deputy Secretary.

Malemo led the Lolo Lemanu re-election campaign with Chief of Staff Fiu Johnny Saelua.

He is currently Director of Administrative Services.

With a financial background, he was budget director during the Togiola Faoa administration.

Apparently another talking chief from Manu’a who attended a meeting yesterday in the Governor’s Office at which Lolo announced the appointments for Samoan Affairs, was unhappy with Malemo’s appointment.

Two sources who were present said Laie Mata’utia raised his voice at Malemo when they exited the Governor’s Office though it’s not clear what was said.

Malemo remained quiet and just looked at Laie, according to the sources.

Reached yesterday afternoon, Malemo confirmed that he had been appointed as Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs.

As for the encounter with his fellow tootoo or orator from Manu’a, Malemo said he did not understand  what that was all about.

Getting back to the cabinet appointments, Governor Lolo says the four first directors  will be made public this morning.

It’s certain that Save Liuato Tuitele is not returning to the Commissioner’s position.

Save told KHJ News that he did not reapply and in fact is leaving tonight and will be away for three months to spend time with children off island and tend to medical appointments.

KHJ News has learned that Governor Lolo has tapped a former commissioner  who is currently in the Fono to head Public Safety.
