Manu’a District is meeting this afternoon to discuss preparations for the Inauguration of Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga and Lt. Governor Lemanu Palepoi Sialega Peleti Mauga for a second term as leaders of the executive branch of the American Samoa government.

While a program for the inauguration has not been released, it is expected that the orators of the Manu’atele will perform the traditional blessing of Governor Lolo Moliga, a son of Manu’a.

Tootoo Malemo Tausaga says in an announcement that Manu’a District Governor Misaalefua Hudson is convening a meeting of the Manu’a District at 4:30 pm today at the Tafuna High School gym to discuss the swearing in ceremony for the governor and lt governor on January 3rd.

Noon on that date, is the statutory time and date for the swearing in of the governor and lt governor.

Four years ago, after Lolo and Lemanu defeated Faoa Aitofele Sunia and Taufetee John Faumuina in a run-off gubernatorial election, they were sworn in at the Fagatoo Pavilion , with a few invited guests from neighboring islands and supporters of the Lolo Lemanu team from Hawaii and the mainland.

January 3 is also the date for the swearing in of members of the Legislature, and election of the Senate President and Speaker of the House and officers of the two chambers.

It’s not a public holiday but Governor Lolo has authorized the closure of public schools that day and has informed directors to encourage employees of ASG to attend the swearing in ceremonies.

As of yesterday the program for the inauguration had not been finalized.
