The LBJ Hospital is looking at reducing its workforce in an effort to reduce spending.

Chief Executive Officer of LBJ Hospital Taufetee John Faumuina Jr. revealed at last week’s cabinet meeting that he has notified the LBJ staff to prepare for the eventuality of a reduction in force.

He didn’t explain why the reduction was necessary .

At the previous cabinet meeting Taufetee had said that the hospital’s finances were in good shape.

The CEO told last week’s meeting that overall operation of the hospital was running smoothly except for one problem.

As of last week, LBJ was still waiting for a response from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) regarding the opening of the renovated old Dialysis Unit.

The hospital has also not heard from CMS concerning a plan of corrective action to address deficiencies which the agency found during a surprise visit earlier this year.

Approval of CMS is required to certify LBJ so it can continue to reimburse the hospital for treatment of patients who qualify for Medicaid and Medicare funding.

According to Taufetee, correspondence from LBJ to CMS have gone unanswered and he’s thinking of asking the governor to make contact with the federal agency concerning the opening of the renovated Dialysis Unit .
