ASDOE FY2016 Consolidated Grant Application Approved

ASG, particularly the Department of Education, received a Christmas present yesterday.

The US Department of Education notified Acting Director of Education Philo Jennings that the American Samoa DOE’s consolidated grant application for Fiscal Year 2016 was approved,

This was indeed good news for DOE considering that it took nearly the whole school year to get approval of the FY2015 consolidated grant application.

Jennings said the email from USDOE was received after 3 yesterday afternoon and he immediately forwarded a copy to the Governor’s Office.

The email from Jamila Smith, Insular Area Team leader of the US DOE said the Fiscal Year 2016 consolidated grant has been awarded to American Samoa Department of Education.

Jennings said the award total $18.6 million,

The acting DOE director was responsible for the part of the grant application for government schools, which includes 11 programs,.

He said program directors submitted their applications which he reviewed before it was submitted to USDOE.

The application for 14 private schools was developed by the DOE grant writer Tupua Roy Fua,

Jennings acknowledged the support of Governor Lolo and said the quick approval is a credit to the collaboration by DOE personnel and all those who contributed to developing the consolidated grant application.

He said it was certainly a great Christmas present.
