Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has invited Dwayne the Rock Johnson to be at ringside at the heavy weight title bout between Joseph Parker and Ruiz Jr.
The PM has pledged $230,000 from the Samoa Government to help stage the fight.
Tuilaepa hosted a press conference in Auckland yesterday concerning the fight and told reporters he has personally invited Samoa wrestling and Hollywood superstar, Seiuli Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to attend the December 10 WBO title fight, as his personal special guest.
Tuilaepa told the Samoa Observer, “The Rock,” hasn’t responded to acknowledge he accepts the invitation.
“But he is always willing and able to support Samoa when he is able to.
“He is one of our sons and always acknowledges his commitment to Samoa.
The PM added , “Joseph [Parker] needs all the support he can get to have a good fight so I see the opportunity there to have The Rock here.”
The Prime minister says the tourism exposure for Samoa will be huge with millions viewing the live international broadcast of the fight.
Part of the partnership package with fight promoters Doco Events is that Tuilaepa will introduce the main event on fight night on the live international broadcast.
Parker is the third son of Samoa to attempt the world heavyweight title, after David Tua and Alex Leapai.
Tuilaepa is putting his money on Parker saying, “he has an advantage of being much taller than David and also has a longer reach.”
The PM has also extended an invitation to Pene Pati of Sol3 Mio to sing the Samoan national anthem before the main fight.
